Tips for Progress Meetings
A progress meeting is a great opportunity for you to find out how your child is getting on at school. It is important that you find the time to go to these meetings. Not turning up to a progress meeting shows both the teacher and your child that you do not care about your child’s school work.
Write questions down to take with you so you do not forget any and take a notepad and pen to record information that the teacher may give you. Arrive promptly so that you have your full allotted time with the teacher and be friendly and courteous. It is best to ask your most important questions first just in case there is not enough time to ask all of your questions.
Talk to your child before the progress meeting and ask them if there is anything that they would like you to ask the teacher such as whether there is anything they are finding difficult at the moment, what they have particularly enjoyed or disliked at school recently, etc. Make a note of your child’s answers.
Questions to ask during progress meeting:
- Is my child progressing well and at the right rate for their age?
- What are they doing well at?
- What are their weaknesses and their strengths?
- Is there anything that they are struggling with?
- What can I do at home to help with homework and their studies?
- Do they need extra help with anything in particular? Math homework help? Algebra homework help?
- How much homework should they be doing a day?
- Does my child seem happy when they are at school? Do they get on well with other children?
- How is my child tested or assessed?
- How can I be more involved with my child’s education? How can I be more involved with the school?
If you find out thatyour child is struggling at school with a particular subject then it may be worth considering using a tutor or an online tutoring service to support them with their studies.

Most families these days have both of the parents working either full-time or part-time. Many parents feel too busy to help with homework or too tired. Some parents do not even get back from work until their children are in bed. Even parents who work from home feel the pressure as they have their own work and deadlines.
You are a parent and your child is your responsibility. You need to find ways to help your child and to support them with their studies. Following are some tips for parents to help their children with their math homework, online math tutoring, algebra homework help, etc.
l Schedule time – You schedule time to eat, to brush your teeth, etc. Your child can and should fit into your schedule. Schedule a time each day (or a longer block at weekends) to help your child with their homework, even if it’s just 20 minutes.
l Schedule leisure time – You need to have quality family time with your children. Have fun as a family during weekends. Do things together. This is important for you also since you need time away from work to better you health and stress levels.
l Have a date night once a month – Take your child out on a date to a restaurant or bowling alley, somewhere where you can talk. This helps build your relationship so that they will feel able to come to you with problems and to share difficulties they are having at school.
l Encourage them when you help with their homework. Do not constantly criticize or correct. Help them find strategies to solve homework problems, don’t just give the answers.
l Use personal or online tutoring. Sometimes a child learns better from an objective person who is not a family member. Online tutoring, such as online math tutoring, is great because it can be done in the comfort of your home and at your child’s own pace.

Today is Sunday and I just wantched the Chicago Bulls and Detriot Pistons game. I know the Bulls are not as good as last year, but there’s a small IF that entices me to watch them. Yes, they lost today by 7 points! In any case, life goes on.
I have a school tomorrow and online tutoring after school so very busy day tomorrow.
