Online Tutoring

Online tutoring is the process by which knowledge is imparted from an expert or tutor to a student over the internet. The basic idea of online tutoring has been around almost from the beginning of the internet era.
In the initial stage, the interaction between student and the expert or tutor was conducted via email. The tests or exam may be taken and submitted by the student and returned to the tutor for their feedback. With the increased bandwidth, the students and the tutors can now engage online at the same time, in real-time, as in a physical classroom. With advanced technology tools, the tutor and the students can interact using a virtual whiteboard at the same time which is equivalent to a physical classroom blackboard that allows tutors to write and generate illustrations in real-time. Today, online tutoring has the capacity and the tools to utilize both online voice chat, instant messaging, and web cam for the interaction as well.
Online tutoring allows both the tutor and student to be in completely different location and even in different time zones (e.g. via emails or offline messages). In online tutoring, the tutor can take advantage of the computer technology to the fullest to display various illustrations and create a virtual laboratory for the students. Online tutoring enables students to contact experienced tutors from anywhere across the globe.
The number of service providers and students needs creates a high demand and potential for the online tutoring industry. Studies shows that the students use online tutoring services for clarifying their questions, or for help in their homeworks, and also to learn difficult math and science concepts.
